Sen. Dassler-Alfheim encourages applications for State Violence Prevention Grant 

$10 million in funding available for violence prevention initiatives and other efforts to improve overall community safety.

OSHKOSH, WI—(WISS)— Earlier this month, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced the launch of a $10 million grant program to support initiatives that address crime, prevent violence, and improve community safety.  Now, Appleton Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim is encouraging Fox Valley organizations to apply for these violence prevention grants.

“Keeping our communities safe is one of the most basic responsibilities of the government. This new office and grant program will help empower our local law enforcement agencies, school districts, non-profits, and local governments to do just that,” Dassler-Alfheim said. 

Eligible Entities

  • School Districts
  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Firearm dealers
  • Government agencies

Uses for the funding

  • School-based suicide prevention
  • Firearm safety training
  • Promoting and administering safe storage and gun buyback programs
  • Support multi-agency law enforcement investigations,
  • Providing technical assistance and support to design, implement, and/or staff evidence-based community policing
  • Crime reduction initiatives
  • Gun violence crisis response teams

How to apply for Violence Prevention Grants

There are five categories for the grants.

  • Suicide Prevention and Firearm Storage Grants
  • Evidence-Based Violence Intervention and Outreach Programs
  • Criminal Justice-Based initiatives
  • Domestic Violence Prevention Initiatives
  • School-Based Initiatives.

Applicants may apply for funding in multiple categories with separate specific category applications. 

The application deadline is at 2 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2026
