RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- State Representatives Tony Kurtz and Alex Dallman honored nine individuals with the 2025 Hometown Hero Award for their selfless and brave act which helped save a life during the 2025 Briggsville Memorial Day Parade.

Representative Dallman says, “What could have been a tragic loss on Memorial Day turned into a powerful reminder of the strength and readiness of our community.”

Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputy Kelsey Morgan, Brittany Walker, Erin Rogers, Melissa Winter, Alejandro Amaya, Mikolaj Amaya, Dylan Moore, Jerry Moore, and Mitch Fisher were honored for saving the life of an American Legion Unit 329 Honor Guard member who collapsed during the Briggsville Memorial Day Parade.

Deputy Morgan immediately stepped in to provide aid. She was joined by other community members who worked seamlessly to give CPR and the Legion member started breathing on his own and regained consciousness. The Legion member was flown to UW Hospital and underwent open-heart surgery and later recovered.

The nine were honored at a special ceremony in the Wisconsin Assembly Chambers surrounded by family and friends.
