RIPON, Wis (WRPN) – The 46-year-old Markesan man charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle for a crash that killed his own mother has been bound over for trial.
Probable cause was found that a felony may have been committed by Justen Poulson. He had a preliminary hearing in Green Lake County Court Tuesday. Poulson is also charged with knowingly operating while revoked causing death.
He was driving a Chevy S-10 pickup truck the morning of Oct. 3 when he was involved in a collision with a loaded dump truck on County Highway A near Miller Road. Poulson’s passenger, 68-year-old Kathleen Rebecca Leow, died at the scene. Poulson and the dump truck driver were both taken to hospitals.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators reviewed video from the dash cam of the dump truck. In the footage, Poulson does not appear to stop or attempt to stop at the stop sign. Poulson told investigators he “zoned out” and wasn’t paying attention. He admitted to drinking alcohol the night before and smoking marijuana the morning of the accident.
He will be arraigned on Dec. 9.
